The Battle of the Food Scientists

This is a fun, beginner-friendly culinary competition open to undergraduate and graduate students (any major) and the public. Participants may sign up as a team of 2–4. This year’s theme is “Fermented Fiesta.” Teams will complete two rounds: a Mystery Basket Plant-Based Muffin Challenge (with a surprise ingredient and optional AI-assisted brainstorming) and a Fermented Flavor Challenge featuring a fermented ingredient. All core ingredients will be provided. A panel of UNL faculty and industry professionals will judge entries based on creativity, taste, and presentation, and top teams will receive awards. No advanced experience is needed—just come ready to compete, learn, and have fun!
