Her commitment aligns closely with the spirit of the newly renamed Dr. Kathryn L. Kotula Special Recognition Award, which she becomes the first to receive following its dedication in honor of her mentor, Dr. Kathryn L. Kotula, upon her retirement. This recognition is especially meaningful given Dr. Kotula’s deep influence on Leslie’s development as a Phi Tau Sigma leader.

A Lifetime Member for multiple years, Leslie has contributed significantly to Phi Tau Sigma’s goals and administration through UMN Chapter Leadership, national committee work, and continuous organizational support. She now serves as Co‑Executive Director, helping guide national operations, strengthen member engagement, and ensure the long‑term vitality of the Honor Society.

Outside her service to Phi Tau Sigma, Leslie is a Technical Solutions Specialist at PURIS Proteins, where she advances sustainable, plant‑based ingredient innovation. She plays a central role in analytical, functional, and quality initiatives and contributed to the successful commercialization of several new pea‑based ingredients, including PURIS ClearP™. Her peer‑reviewed research on perennial grains and her invited presentations further demonstrate her commitment to advancing food science in sustainable ways.
