Dr. Lili He, Professor and Head of the Department of Food Science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, is an internationally recognized leader in food science and technology. She started her journey as a faculty in Sept 2012; since then, her research has significantly advanced analytical food chemistry and food safety through the integration of innovative spectroscopic methods with translational research approaches. With more than 160 peer-reviewed publications, patented technologies, and real-world applications including startup activity, Dr. He’s work addresses critical challenges in food safety, quality, and public health.
In addition to her research accomplishments, Dr. He has made lasting contributions to the food science community through leadership and service. She founded and directs the Raman, IR, and XRF Core Facility and, since 2023, has served as Department Head of one of the nation’s leading Food Science programs. She also leads the Future of Food Initiatives such as the Food 2036 Workshop, while maintaining long-standing service to Phi Tau Sigma in multiple leadership roles, reflecting her commitment to excellence, innovation, and professional development in food science.
