Dr. S. Suzanne Nielsen Chapter Program Award

2026 Honoree

As one of Phi Tau Sigma’s chapters nationwide, the Honor Society of Food Science and Technology, the LSU Food Science Club is grateful to have been selected to receive the Dr. S. Suzanne Nielsen Chapter Program Award, which supports our signature Spring 2026 initiative: Food for Thought: LSU Nutrition & Food Science Research Showcase.Food for Thought is a mini conference style poster presentation designed to strengthen research dissemination and scientific communication across the LSU School of Nutrition and Food Sciences. The event will bring together undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral trainees to present posters, engage in scholarly dialogue, and receive structured feedback in a professional setting. Faculty and invited industry professionals will serve as judges and mentors, offering constructive evaluation and recognizing excellence in research quality, originality, creativity, and communication. For many students, this experience extends beyond presenting results; it is an opportunity to learn how to communicate the story and impact of their work with clarity and confidence. By simulating a conference environment, Food for Thoughtwill help students practice poster communication, networking, and question-and-answer engagement skills essential for careers in academia and industry.

We acknowledge this award with sincere gratitude and with sadness, as Dr. Suzanne Nielsen is no longer with us. We extend our heartfelt thanks to her family, especially Dr. Robert Nielsen, for continuing her legacy and sustaining opportunities that empower students. We also thank Phi Tau Sigma for its continued support, and we look forward to serving the food science community together through this event.
